"HOUSE OF WAX; starring Vincent Price; 1955"

Age nine-----------
A change of mine,
Happy Birthday dear,
Say, hello to fear.

"House of Wax"
These are the facts
Clearly stated.

The movie was x-rated
-Or should have been.
(Were they even rated back then?)

A museum was filled
With people who were killed.

Husbands and wives,
Couldn't keep their lives
He'd kill them with knife or ax
Then they'd be dipped into wax!
Like candle wicks.
Later propped up with sticks
For all to view,
None of you had a clue...

Now, he is coming after me,
It is too dark to see.
Shadows crawl
On the wall……………..
Underneath the bed I hide
Soon I'll die.

Summer/Winter in the South

Summer in the South

The sun blazes, the car steering wheel is hard to touch,
Some days it's so hot an egg will fry on asphalt,
Barefoot children run fast across blistering sands,
Hoping to avoid the pain of burnt feet,
Droplets of sweat, stream down backs and sting eyes.
The sun quickly hides behind clouds, blackening the skies
Gentle rain becomes a torrential downpour
Lightening lights the sky from bottom to top
Thunder vibrates the window panes,
Winds shear the tops out of large pine trees,
After the rain little toads appear from no where
To splash in mud puddles,
Red birds, sparrows and blue jays play.
The sun reappears, everything is clean and brighter.
Blackberries grow wild in fields; it pays to watch your step
Rattle snakes like to hide in their vines,
Mosquitoes swarm everywhere in search of warm blood.
Trucks loudly pass, ineffectually streaming pesticide,
The sweet stench of it fills my nose.
Lawns and flowers flourish, green and rose,
Marigolds and honey suckle scents float in the air.
The season's culinary fair consists of vegetables, fresh
Boiled peanuts, watermelons and green plums
Someone usually has vine ripened tomatoes to share
I hate to say goodbye to the summertime.

The South in winter

Of winter I have less to say, but more to remember,
It is a short, fickle period of time
As late as December air conditioners can still whine.
The number of cold days can be counted on one hand.
Shelters have to advertise to let people know
They can come there to get out of the cold.
Everyone gets so excited at the word snow,
But no one can drive in it so cars slide to and fro
Morning frost colors the ground white
Car windshields are coated with ice.
A big event is when the fair comes to town.
The usual rides can be found there; like the Ferris wheel
And meals are consumed of cotton candy and elephant ears
On the last day of the fair, as if scheduled
The first chill of winter appears.
Then there's the holiday season with its songs,
I'm ready for the end of it by the time winter's gone.

Financial Adventures

Today I'll avoid making a trip to any retail outlet or grocery store.
I do not want to cash in on "the sale of the season". Instead I will get my bills in order.

I got the online bill for my phone service today.  Dealing with the telephone company can be as convoluted and confusing as dealing with the IRS.

The local service on my bill indicated that the service had increased from $26.47 to $39.00. I have recently added new services, but the amount on the bill was still $10.00 more than I had figured the monthly bill would increase.  I set out to get to the bottom of it so I pulled up my bill and looked it over. The phone company overcharged me. I was given a $75 credit when I signed up for the internet service. The credit is listed but so is the first charge on an installment plan for ten months. So that portion of the bill on page 4 line's 7, 8 and 9 included a charge for the $75 a credit -$75 and a 7.50 charge. A tax of $5.23 was also charged. I called and after at least 15 minutes of wait time I talked to someone and I explained the mistake. The individual I spoke with explained that could not be so. I was put on hold to await a transfer to a different office, but then she interupted the wait and came back onto the line. She explained that she had checked it out and as a result was giving me a $15 credit to cover this charge and the charge that would be on the bill next month. After I hung up the phone I realized that the adjustment would cover two erroneous charges, but would not cover the added tax which could total $11.00 more dollars. So, I called again and after another 15 minute wait talked with another representative. I explained the problem and she quickly (too quickly) indicated that she too would give me a credit, a credit that would cover $6.70.  Then she tried to sell me a bundled package for $99. I told her no thanks.

I am not confident that I am going to get all these charge back so I am going to have to keep a close watch on my phone bill.   This is the same company that I had trouble with ten years ago.  At that time, over six months after I paid several bills they attempted to add more charges.  I was really dissappointed to learn this company had bought out the company I switched to at that time.   Monopoly is a bad thing.

Happy Thanksgiving "Happy Thoughts?" by Jackie

Thankful Thoughts?
Well, let me see
The first thing that comes to mind
I am free to stay on land or set out to sea
In my cupboard there's plenty of food to eat
Even A few bottles of wine for a special treat
When it is cold outside I stay warm
The roof over my head keeps me out of a storm.

When Thanksgiving comes I won't mind dining alone
I'll sit and eat with my friends on TV
Which brings me to another blessing,
I can still see!
I could list many more
But, I don't want to be a bore
The last thing I'd like to say
To you all is
Have a happy holliday.

Cupid - Poem of the day by Jackie

A beautiful girl

Sad, wandered the earth

In search of her heart

Cupid lay in wait

Bow held in his hand

As she approached he

Did appreciate

This grand twist of fate

He drew back to shoot

With a loud snap, ping—

Bow string was broken

In horror he sees

It spiral and ring

Tears stream down his face

Crestfallen, dismayed,

Arrow of love staid

Now, impossible

To inspire the maid

To romance and love.

Poem of the day, - Villanelle 2005

Gray, blue, white and red.)
Flags wave as drums tap and boys fall down,
too many young men shot dead.

Who will be responsible for this carnage, the general that led
the charge as the battle cries screamed their piercing sound?
(Gray, blue, white and red.)

Vultures pluck bones clean, growing fat on flesh fed;
Some soldiers lucky to even get buried six foot underground.
Too many young men shot dead.

When mama got the news about Johnny she took to bed,
Overcome with sorrow and anguish no solace found.
(Gray, blue, white and red.)

Thinking of other sons fills me with dread,
Curse the ones responsible, wretched and lowdown,
Too many young men shot dead.

When will it end, all the bloodshed?
To this question, no immediate reply can be found,
(Gray, blue, white and red.)
Too many young men shot dead.

Beautiful Pen - Poem of the day

The scream within
my belly dies
As I pick up this Pen
Serenity descends
Over me. Delight!
The large page,
Spacious, white;
Not yet blemished
By black ink
Waits
Weighted by
The responsibility
A pebble I throw
Into a pond.
I feel the elation
Of creation
I feel powerful
I can choose
Which memory
To cherish or lose
Sandalwood
Field of clover
André Segovia
Birds singing
Bells ringing
Quickening
Or
Sulfurous Eggs
Sour booze
Screaming
Dead fish
Denied Wish
Abyss

The End

Poem of the Day -Silly, Big Word Exercise.

Scribacious Dame Jenni
Bumfuzzeled her mates
With cacoethes scribeni
You Raised batrachomyomachy
She stated: "You made me unhappy".

Jenni sang a dithyramb
Became happy as a clam,
Because She avoided acedia
Then she said:
"I wished to elucidate"

With adhortation cacohonous
With style loquacious
She continued to:
Babble, quibble
Scrawl and scribble

"A Kind of List Poem" by Jackie (Poem of the day)

Outside in the yard
Birds twitter and chirp
Down in my hand
Palm lines run long and deep

In my imagination
I scheme of my future
And there is the realization

I will persevere

I will share

I will admire

Nothing is pitiful
Nothing is ludicrous

I live, I love

"Bell" Poem of the day by Jackie

She is persistent
I wake up cold as ice
Yesterday it was six. Now,
It is seven!
Holy cow, next it will be eleven!
Woof, woof, woof
Animal orientation
Time to get up
Time to go
She barks, "don't be so slow "

Dogs have no sense of time. Do "they"
Know of Pavlov's bell
Tinkle, Tinkle
Every day
Reflects a new wrinkle
Tax, tax, tax
These are the facts
"They" speak using words
Of which I am familiar.
Cha Ching, Cha Ching,

Who changes the time?
White Collars
Men in black
Women in red
It isn't the loss, but the lack
Of Gain that they dread
Clang, Clang, Clang

Naysayer Gloom
Too many old folks
From the Baby Boom
Why are they still here?
Why are they living so long?

Have you heard the song?
And all that jive
Medicine,
Is keeping them alive?
Ding a ling, ding a ling

The sin of my youth
Is forgiven
Here is the win- win
Raise prices
Increase stress
Take away their medicine
Give them no rest
Play that bugle for them
Dumb ta dum, dum ta dum, dum ta dum

Ecclesiates 23:22

Dispise not thy mother when she is old.

The Five Aggregates of Existence

                            "Birth is suffering;
                            Decay is suffering;
                             Death is suffering;
Sorrow, Lamentation, Pain, Grief and Despair are suffering;
         not to get what one desires is suffering;
                                   in short:
                 The Five Aggregates of Existence
                              are suffering."

"Dumb Delights" by Walt Whitman

I think I could turn and live with animals,
           they're so placid and self-contained:
I stand and look at them long and long.
They do not sweat and whine about their condition;
They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their sins;
They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God;
Not one is dissatisfied--not one is demented with the
           mania of owning things;
Not one kneels to another, nor to his kind that lived
           thousands of years ago;
Not one is respectable or industrious over the whole
           earth.
